Suzy and I left at about 9:30am to see more sights in the area. The girls had decided not to come because they wanted to go into Truro. Steph wanted to take my laptop into town so she could get internet reception to finalise her bookings for her trip to Europe next week. Nicky wanted to go shopping to take advantage of the sales. Suzy planned to join them this afternoon on their shopping expedition in Truro.
On our sightseeing trip, we drove through Penryn to Falmouth and then to Pendennis Castle. This castle is located on the tip of the southern side of the entry to the River Fal. It is an ideal location for a fortress to protect the town of Falmouth. There is another smaller castle, called St Mawes, on the other side of the river.
Pendennis Castle is not a ruin – it is on good condition and is maintained by the English Heritage organisation. It is less than 500 years old and was used continuously as a military location until about 50 years ago. Apart from various European wars over the centuries, it was used this century during both world wars.
We drove back to Truro and parked in the car park near the centre of the town. Steph was still in Caffe Nero finalising her bookings using my laptop. She had decided to use the USB modem rather than paying to use the BT online service that is available in Caffe Nero. After she had finished, I had lunch at the cafe and used the laptop. Steph then joined Suzy and Nicky in the shops.

There was only about an hour of battery left on the laptop and so I didn’t have enough time to finish what I needed to do. So at about 2pm, I drove back to the house at Malpas to recharge the battery.
When I turned on the TV at house, BBC1 was showing the final set between Federer and Hewitt at Wimbledon. Federer was already ahead 2 sets to love and went on to win the third set.
At about 4pm, I got a call from Nicky saying they were ready to be picked up. Apparently they'd tried calling many times without success because of the poor mobile reception at the house.
I drove into Truro and met them outside the Caffe Nero. They left me there to use the internet and we arranged that they would pick me up at 6pm so we could drive to St Agnes for dinner. The battery on my laptop gave up just before 5:30pm and so I had half an hour to fill in before they arrived.
Nicky's work colleagues had suggested we go to St Agnes and it proved to be good advice. The peak above the town is called St Agnes Beacon. A bit of detective work let us find a place to park and a gentle path to follow up the hill to the peak.
At the top, you have a fabulous 360 degree view of the spectacular coast and the beautiful green countryside. Naturally we took plenty of photos.
Next we drove through the narrow streets of St Agnes and down to the beach. There we found a very nice restaurant above the hotel. Unlike the hotel downstairs, the restaurant was modern and spacious with a great view of the beach. It reminded us of the restaurant at Whale Beach.
