Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was very nice. They provided a good selection of food - hot & cold, Western & Asian, fruit, cereal and lots of coffee.
After breakfast, Suzy took the bus back to Stanley markets. She had discovered last night that the shop had given her the wrong size jumper. It was the right colour and was labelled with the size she had chosen but it must have been incorrectly labelled because it was far too big.
I spent the morning going for a walk down the main street near the hotel.
We both got back to the hotel at about 11:15am. Suzy managed to replace the jumper with one the correct size but had to settle for a different colour. She noticed that the one she got today had a label that was sown in by machine whereas the label for the one she got yesterday was shown in by hand. She suspects that yesterday the shop did a quick label swap out the back when they didn't have the right size in the right colour on display.
We checked out at noon and had lunch in the hotel restaurant. The bus for the tour picked us up and then proceeded to pick up other customers from hotels in Hong Kong and Kowloon.
The tour went from Kowloon to the New Territories and back. We went to a Buddhist monastery, a traditional 700 year-old village (slum), a lookout at the border with China, a camphor wishing tree and finally a jewellery factory in Kowloon.
The guide was very good and very informative. For example, she said that Hong Kong Island was originally a fishing village of only 5000 people. The British took possession of Hong Kong Island when they defeated China in the first Opium War. They took possession of Kowloon after they beat the Chinese again in the second Opium War. Later they negotiated to lease the New Territories.
The guide suggested that we see the 8pm light show. She said you need to view it from Kowloon and look back at Hong Kong Island while they illuminate buildings on Hong Kong Island.
We got back to the hotel at 6:15pm, collected our bags and took a taxi to Hong Kong railway station where we checked in our bags for the flight to London. They were quite happy to take the bags even though the flight was due to leave 6 hours later.
Then we caught the Star Ferry to Hong Kong, had a quick dinner at McDonalds and got to the viewing platform in time to see the light show from 8pm to 8:15pm. Then back on the Star Ferry to Hong Kong Station for the train trip to the airport.
We enjoyed the BA lounge before our flight. They had Sydney Sunday papers so we caught up with some of the news from home. The flight left on time and arrived in London 20 minutes early.
It was great to be travelling business class instead of economy class. The difference is huge. There was plenty of space, better food and personalised service. The seats had a variety of positions including dead flat horizontal for sleeping. I slept better than I have ever slept before on a plane.
During dinner, I watched the film Bruce Almighty and during breakfast I saw most of Full Monty. I hadn't seen either of them before.
